Over 50 investment and savings industry executives back LGBT+ #50For50 Pride campaign

LGBT Great announces the publication of the #50For50 Executives campaign. The purpose of this initiative is to commemorate Pride and the fifty years since the Stonewall movement began in 1969. A date, which is widely regarded as the catalyst for the improvement of LGBT+ equality and human rights.

LGBT Great has been working to engage industry leadership on the LGBT+ agenda and secure their support as advocates by featuring in the Pride campaign. This marks the first time that the industry has worked together to stand in solidarity for Pride.

The campaign features as part of LGBT Great’s Project 1000, a five-year drive to identity and shine a light on one thousand LGBT+ and allies working within the industry. This has now secured representation from over one-hundred different firms globally and has now gained the support of over fifty executive level leaders. This powerful declaration of intent comes as a direct response to the research report ‘Aiming For Great’ which revealed senior level support is important to over 92% of LGBT+ employees working within the industry.

LGBT Great have delivered the campaign by working with their member firms and in collboration with the Diversity Project to both inform and inspire.

Matthew Cameron, Managing Director of LGBT Great comments that:

“The support we have received for the #50For50 campaign has been incredible. We would like to thank the firms who have participated, in particular our member firms, who have advocated strongly for the purpose of this campaign. The next step is to convert this support into all year round action which is what we seek to achieve”.

Helena Morrissey, Chair of the Diversity Project comments that:

“LGBT GREAT has achieved so much in such a short amount of time, accelerating the prominence of the LGBTQ+ community across the financial services sector and illustrating just how important collective action is to achieving equal representation.

I’m delighted that there will be so many participants from the industry at Pride. The #50for50 campaign is leading the way in ensuring everyone has a voice and we recognise those who are helping us to progress towards the day when we won’t need any campaigns – people will be simply valued as human beings”.
