Empowering LGBT+ Talent to Thrive

LGBT Great’s mission is to create the largest community of accessible mentees and mentors within financial services. The programme works by connecting talent across different organisations and regions worldwide. We empower participants to be proactive in their support and encourage the mentee to own the relationship.

Our mentoring programme is a tried and tested outreach tool created by LGBT Great to inspire LGBT+ talent and allies within financial services. It enables LGBT+ people to access career development opportunities, advice and matches them with role models who want to improve their knowledge and allyship throughout the industry.

Mentoring provides a valuable opportunity for learning for both mentees and the mentors. The LGBT Great mentoring programme successfully connected me a mentee from another organisation and the experience has been highly rewarding. We had a very constructive relationship and I was able to act as a sounding board for some career decisions they were considering and help them think through their next steps. FAQs

Project 1000 FAQs and answers

Yes. The mentoring programme is governed and run by LGBT Great for the exclusive benefit of the employees within global member organisations. Each member firm presents an equal number of mentees and mentees. 

How long does a mentoring cycle last?

Whilst mentoring can bridge relationships which can last forever, LGBT Great recommends that each mentoring cycle runs for 12 months. This is not binary and can be determined by either party involved.  

How is the effectiveness of the programme assessed?

Post an individual cycle, mentoring pairings are role modelled through our regular ‘Member Spotlight’ across our social media channels, with agreement from both parties. Both parties will also complete a short evaluation survey and the data insights are then provided to members. 

What is expected from a mentee?

Being a member mentee is a hugely rewarding process. The role of the mentee is to connect and develop a mentoring relationship with the mentor; develop a clear understanding about what they seek from the programme; and to be open and honest about their challenges and opportunities at work.
