Richard Lee

Chief Financial Officer at Legal & General

About

Bio: Richard is Chief Financial Officer at Legal & General Investment Management (LGIM), a global asset manager with over £1 trillion of assets under management. Richard is responsible for managing the financial strategy and performance of the business, and to be successful in this role, he is a great believer in the importance of authentic leadership and the need to focus on removing perceived barriers that prevent people from being themselves at work. This includes ensuring LGBT+ people feel confident in the workplace.

Richard has been at Legal & General in various roles since 1997. Formerly he held the positions as Group Performance Director, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Risk Officer in Legal & General Retirement and Group Commercial Development Director. Richard has a First Class degree in mathematics and statistics and became a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in 2002.

Richard believes in the importance of diverse teams. He says "one of the most common pitfalls when people recruit is that they have an unconscious bias towards people like themselves."

Through the eyes of his three young children, he is very mindful of the potential barriers that could stand in the way of them progressing in life, and believes that "unless these barriers are tackled, talented people and great leaders could be stifled to the detriment of their own progression and all those around them."
