Julie Dickson

Investment Director at Capital Group

About

Bio: Julie is an Investment Director at Capital Group, focusing on multi-asset strategies and investment solutions. She has 24 years of investment industry experience and has been with Capital Group for three years. Prior to joining Capital, Julie worked as the head of client portfolio management at Ashmore Group. Before that, she held similar positions at Aviva Investors, Axa Rosenberg, Mellon Global Investments, Barclays Global Investors and Merrill Lynch, in London, San Francisco and New York. She holds a bachelor's degree in business management with a concentration in finance from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, and is also a Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA) charterholder.

Julie came to London from San Francisco and was disappointed to observe the significant challenges that lay ahead for members of the LGBT community in financial services. After being both a witness and a victim to discrimination in the workplace, Julie finally decided to do something about it when she joined Capital Group. She set out to make greater contributions to the organisation by becoming a senior member of CG Pride, Capital Group's LGBT network. Her goal is to promote and organise a variety of events aimed at creating a more inclusive and supportive workplace environment for members of the LGBT community. She organised Capital Group's first-ever art exhibition celebrating LGBT History Month, engaged with Pride in London to participate for the first time in the parade in 2018, hosted panel events with other senior members of the LGBT community in financial services and drives Capital Group to provide continued support in this area. Her main drive is simply inclusion, acceptance and visibility for members of the LGBT community.

Julie remains passionate about promoting LGBT interests in the workplace, is very open about being gay and acts as a mentor to junior people as well as encourages better practices to avoid unconscious bias or discrimination.
I am proud to be an LGBT Great Role model because visibility is important. Visibility drives inclusion. Inclusion drives equity and diversity across organisations. With LGBT Great we have a duty and an opportunity to lift our community and to make it visible.
