Sam is an Executive Director at specialist global management consulting firm, Alpha FMC. In his role, Sam leads the Client & Digital practice for North America where he is responsible for overseeing the firms' work with investment management firms across sales, marketing, client service & product elements of their operating model. Sam also sits on the firms' Management Committee where he oversees recruitment and the firms' diversity, equity and inclusion program for North America; as well as the firms' Executive Committee. He also oversees the regional Marketing & PR efforts for the group. Having worked on a multitude of projects with 30+ global and North American-based investment managers over his career; Sam has a wide range of insights into best practice and operating model success for the investment management industry across the globe and has a passion for sharing insights into making the industry more equitable and inclusive. In his work across the industry, too, Sam is on a mission to ensure that everyone can be just a bit more human, a bit more themselves, in the workplace. Dedicated to challenging the idea of robotic consultants, Sam aims to inject some fun and humanity into the working day - both internally but also with clients. In his work Sam encourages all to think differently, push the status quo, innovate & be bold.
I created the DE&I program for our global business when I joined and have been instrumental in growing & running the program as we have grown from 100 to 1000+ people globally. I defined the pillars of DE&I that we focused on in the program (Pride, Gender Equality, Wellbeing, Cultural Diversity) and grew the governance structure to support these multiple streams in each region across the globe (EMEA, APAC and North America). In this role, I provide oversight and lead our overall DE&I program; data collection efforts; events & communications; manage our anonymous speak-up platform; evolved our performance framework and recruitment process to be more inclusive; and created / delivered multiple DE&I training courses across the firm (e.g. on unconscious bias). I now play a role in overseeing this as part of my role on the Management Committee where I manage a team that are focused on executing day-to-day enhancements to our DE&I strategy.
