Bio: Emma is a Risk Business Partnering Lead at St. James's Place Wealth Management, where she and her team provide assurance on risk management within the business. Emma has worked with SJP for 2 years, and has always worked within the financial services industry, since university, in a variety of different roles.
Emma strongly believes that everyone deserves to have their voice heard, and that fairness is vital in the workplace. One thing standing out to Emma is how important it is to understand internal and subconscious biases, and how they influence our thinking.
Emma feels positive about the work that SJP do to promote inclusion & diversity internally. She has been supported to reduce bias in her own recruitment process by anonymising CVs. Emma has also looked at language within job specifications and how recruitment processes can be developed to be more inclusive.
Emma comments: "Ultimately, all people deserve to be treated as individuals, and we need to be more open to not letting our biases affect how we interact with people. By challenging our own thinking, we can identify biases and open our thought processes - I've found this to be a really powerful exercise.
The most important thing is to just start having the conversation and make sure inclusion isn't a taboo subject'. Everyone deserves to be happy, whoever they are, and we can help make that happen."
