Zach Buchwald

Head of US and Canada Institutional Business at Blackrock

About

Bio: Zach is currently Head of BlackRock's Institutional Business for the U.S. and Canada. He leads sales, client service, strategy and research and is responsible for delivering BlackRock's investment capabilities to the firm's institutional clients. Before this role, he led BlackRock's Financial Institutions Group in the Americas, and earlier, he helped establish the firm's Retirement Solutions Group and Financial Markets Advisory platforms.

Zach serves on BlackRock's Global Operating Committee, the US/Canada Executive Committee, and as the sponsor of its LGBT+ employee network and the founder of BlackRock’s OUT & Allies Network (O&A). Established in 2009, the O&A network predated many other such ERGs in other organisations and has, in many ways, blazed a trail for LGBT+ inclusion networks. Zach has been instrumental in driving LGBT+ DE&I internally and externally. Internally, this has been reflected in developing and implementing better LGBT+ inclusive HR policies and practices. Zach has also ensured that DE&I is embedded into the objectives of all his direct reports and is a vocal proponent of cascading DE&I goals down throughout the business. Externally, Zach is a vocal proponent of the LGBT+ community and leverages his position online to inform, educate, and raise awareness.

Before joining BlackRock in 2008, Zach was a managing director at Morgan Stanley, where he held various positions within the firm's fixed income division. Zach completed a B.A. in English with honors from Harvard College. He is a trustee of the Public Theatre, producer of Hamilton, Fun Home and Girl from the North Country. He serves on the board of directors of the Jericho Project, a non-profit homeless service organization.
