Why We Launched LGBT Great Careers — and Why I’m Proud to Lead It

By Lauren Cahill (she/her), Head of Operations and Careers Leader, LGBT Great

A Personal Perspective

Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to work with some incredible advocates and role models, many of whom helped shape the leader I am today. Their belief in me opened doors, encouraged my growth, and inspired me to pay it forward. I’ve learned how powerful it is when someone sees your potential and chooses to champion it.

That said, I’ve also come to understand that not everyone has had that same experience. Through my work with LGBT Great, I’ve heard hundreds of stories, of LGBTQ+ people whose talents have been overlooked, whose identities have been questioned, and whose journeys have been shaped by exclusion rather than support. It has deepened my passion for allyship and my belief in the role we each play in building more inspiring workplaces.

I’ve seen how critical visibility, sponsorship, and inclusive leadership are, not just in opening pathways, but in helping people truly believe they belong. Allyship isn’t a badge or a one-off gesture. It’s a daily practice that lifts others up, especially when it’s inconvenient or uncomfortable. And when we make space for others to lead and thrive, we all benefit.

Today, LGBTQ+ people are facing rising hostility and discrimination in many countries and workplaces. In some places, their identities are criminalised. In others, their existence is debated. Even in more progressive settings, many still feel the need to hide who they are at home and at work, just to succeed.

Why We Launched LGBT Great Careers

This reality is why LGBT Great Careers was created. To serve as a beacon of light and a sense of direction for talent navigating uncertainty. To offer a place of clarity, confidence, and connection in an increasingly polarised world.

This platform is more than a place to find a job. It’s a space to find belonging. It connects under-represented talent with forward-thinking employers, organisations that are committed not just to inclusion, but to action. To purpose. To creating cultures where everyone can thrive.

Because something changes when people see themselves reflected in a company’s values, leadership, and employee experience. That visibility creates hope, and hope, paired with opportunity, can change everything.

Using the Platform Ourselves

It’s why I’m incredibly proud that we also use LGBT Great Careers to recruit for our own team. In the past year alone, we’ve received:

  • 120 applications for our internship programme

  • Over 200 applications for a new Research and Data role

Many of those applicants were LGBTQ+ and from broader under-represented communities, showing us that talent is ready and waiting for employers who lead with integrity, authenticity, and care.

Helping Employers Tell Their Story

Beyond helping candidates, LGBT Great Careers also empowers organisations to tell their story, to showcase their brand, share their values, and spotlight what inclusion really looks like in practice. And in a world where candidates are increasingly guided by trust, transparency, and impact, these signals of hope matter.

From AI-powered job tools to custom employer pages, from job scraping to candidate redirection, we’re reimagining what inclusive recruitment can look like.

Measurable Impact and a Growing Movement

In the past year, we’ve seen over 10,000 job applications and an 821% increase in roles posted. But these numbers only tell part of the story. The real impact lies in what they represent: a growing movement of alignment, visibility, and belief.

Because when someone can picture themselves in your workplace, they start to believe they belong. And when people belong, they don’t just stay, they thrive.

Join Our Mission

That’s why we do what we do. Because when your people prosper, everyone thrives. Project Uplift is our mission to expand access to inclusive job opportunities, empowering LGBTQ+ talent and employers to create positive impact during a time when visibility and hope matter most.

If your organisation is serious about engaging with the LGBTQ+ community, becoming a member of LGBT Great is a powerful step forward. It sends a message to your people, your stakeholders, and the wider world that you’re ready to lead with purpose.
