Martin Stead

Chief Executive Officer at Nutmeg

Martin's background is in fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), working for Procter & Gamble (P&G) in the UK, Switzerland, and the US. In his time at P&G, he ran the Ariel detergent business and launched Oral-B toothpaste. He then joined EDF's £3 billion UK residential business, where he was responsible for establishing the EDF name, digitising the business, and growing the customer base.

Martin joined Nutmeg in 2015 and led a funding round in 2016, raising £42 million of investment into the firm. Under his leadership, Nutmeg has experienced rapid growth and become the first UK online wealth manager to manage more than £1bn in assets under management and to have a five-year performance track record.

Martin has been a champion for the LGBT community throughout his career. He established P&G's first LGBT network in Switzerland, he founded the UK's first gay speed dating service, and he mentors in schools to tackle LGBT bullying.

Martin sees the LGBT Great initiative as hugely important because the visibility of role LGBT role models has the power to help bring about positive change in an industry that suffers from a deep-rooted image problem. As Nutmeg is proving, the industry doesn't have to be bound by its past. Rather, it can be open, transparent, and inclusive for customers and staff alike.
