About
Bio: As CEO of Legal & General’s Institutional Retirement business, Laura is responsible for helping defined benefit pension schemes to settle their pension obligations and better secure their members’ benefits through buyouts and other insurance solutions. Laura is a strong supporter of the firm’s purpose to be economically and socially useful and the firm’s commitment to diversity & inclusion. In the past five years Legal & General has secured more than £30 billion of liabilities and insured over 80,000 pension scheme members.
Laura joined Legal & General in 2011 where she was initially responsible for Annuity Investment strategy. Laura was a part of the senior management team responsible for setting up Legal & General Capital (LGC), where she served as Director of Direct Investment. She is a qualified Actuary, and has a First Class Honours Degree in Engineering Science from University of Oxford, and a PhD in Engineering Science also from the University of Oxford.
Laura believes that there are huge opportunities for companies that embrace diversity, and that businesses should focus on ensuring everyone, regardless of background or identity feels confident to be themselves in the workplace. Allowing people to feel themselves, to be authentic and happy is when you get the best out of people and build a positive culture.
