About

Bio: Alain is proud to be an LGBT+ Project 1000 Role Model within the investment industry and part of LGBT Great.

He is an investment and governance specialist with over 20 years of experience in portfolio management, risk control and making asset-management businesses more efficient. Alain has built a diverse portfolio of non-executive director and investment advisory roles in the institutional, private wealth and retail markets.

He is non-executive director, a member of the Investment Committee and the Remuneration Committee of the Universities Superannuation Scheme, the UK’s largest private pension fund by assets. He is also non-executive director and Chair of the Board at Waystone Fund Services (UK), a firm that acts as an Authorised Corporate Director (ACD) in the UK retail fund market.

Prior to his board career, Alain was co-Head of Investments for BlackRock's Client Portfolio Solutions and responsible for the oversight and the performance of GBP75bn of client assets in EMEA. Before his time at BlackRock, Alain spent 14 years at Goldman Sachs in various senior roles in asset management and investment research.

Alain grew up in rural Brittany before moving to Paris to train as a scientist. He was awarded a doctorate at AgroParisTech in 1994 for his work on the modelling of drinking water quality in distribution networks.
I’m committed to improving inclusion and diversity at board level. The recent introduction of metrics and targets for board has clearly had a positive impact on diversity. I’m keen that the forms of diversity that are not typically subject to targets, e.g. (dis)ability, social background, sexual orientation, gender identity and others also benefit from boards’ attention.
