About
Bio: Nigell is Director of Foreign Exchange at Fidelity International based in Ireland with responsibility for all Investment Management FX trading activity. Nigell originally started his career with Fidelity from its Head Office located in Bermuda. Nigell was recognised in the OUTstanding LGBT+ Executives in 2021 for his contribution to LGBT+ inclusion at Fidelity and externally in the sector. Nigell has also been included in the Top 100 EMPower Ethic Role Model List for 2020 and 2021.
Nigell is active in Fidelity’s D&I network and does not feel in any way that any of these activities are ‘extra circular’, they just feel natural to do. He does so because he passionately believes that any business to be successful must understand the true business case and benefits for its employees and customers. Nigell appreciates that he can’t change everything but is confident that the actions from himself and others would have had a lasting impact on the culture within Fidelity and is proud of the legacy he will leave behind.
Nigell comments: “Those businesses that embrace best practice have proven to outperform their peers and score high in employee engagement, productivity, therefore better results/ decision making. A true advocate must also recognize the value and impact of diversity of thought.” Nigell encourages those starting out in their careers to get involved with one of their firm’s Employee Resource Groups. He adds: “No matter how small or big your contribution is, every little helps. Additionally, it’s a great way of networking and meeting other people with a similar passion from other business units. Getting to know the challenges/ barriers/ struggles of some of the marginalised groups helps build a characteristic of empathy and if one aspires to be future leader I think this is an invaluable quality to have.”
