Lee Marshall

Chief of Staff, Head of Governance at Church of England Pensions Board

Lee Marshall is the Chief of Staff (Head of Governance) for the Church of England Pensions Board (CEPB).

Lee Marshall is the Chief of Staff of the Church of England Pensions Board; he has worked in various capacities within the Church of England's national administrative bodies for over 35 years. He is one of a handful of our LGBT Executive Directors within the administration, and is, therefore, acutely aware of his responsibilities particularly as a role model and ally.

As Head of Governance for the Church's Pensions Board, one of his responsibilities is ensuring that the trustee body is diverse and effective, and that it reflects the members it serves and wider society. The Church does not often appear diverse and inclusive, and Lee works hard to dispel that image. During the past year, he has been working with a small group to consider and focus on diversity in senior appointments within the Church of England more widely. This work continues and there is still much to do. He is also a mentor to other members of staff.

In 2007, he co-founded the Church House LGBT+ Network with others.

Outside of the office, Lee is the Chair of the Diversity Project Charity and is a Co-Founder of Stonewall. Until March 2020, he was also Chair and a founding trustee of the Ben Cohen StandUp Foundation. He advises charities globally on how they can work better together.

Lee is a regular speaker at LGBT+ History and Pride events and is regularly named as one of the leading LGBT+ Executives globally. He has been a shortlisted nominee for the European Diversity Campaigner of the Year Award several times, and for the British LGBT Inspirational Role Model Award.
