Paul Robinson
Senior FX Trader and Co-Chair of The PRIDE Group at Columbia Threadneedle
About
Bio: Paul is a Director within the dealing team in EMEA, specialising in FX and Money Markets. He has significant investment experience within treasury dealing having previously been responsible for the FX business at FirstState Investments and Lombard Odier Darier Hentsch in London before joining BMO Global Asset Management in 2007, which is now Columbia Threadneedle Investments.
Paul is one of the few openly gay front office investment professionals within the industry and he works with a team who are fully supportive of him. He believes that increasing the visibility of LGBT+ talent across the industry will help to improve the perception amongst the community and help attract employees from a broad range of different identities and backgrounds. He is also passionate about the role the investment industry plays in influencing equality within businesses and corporations.
Paul has seen a marked change in attitudes towards the LGBT+ community over the past three decades. From the: "don't talk about it or it will damage your career" to "working for an organisation that embraces diversity and inclusion authentically and encourages visibility at all levels". He also recognises that more work is needed across the board to fully support and empower members of the trans and non-binary community. He is proud to be associated with LGBT Great, alongside his firm's leadership, to support the industry diversity and inclusion agenda overall.
He comments: "I am proud to be part of this LGBT+ initiative and to assist in bringing visibility, awareness and inclusion to the investment industry. I also want to help BMOGAM achieve its goals and assist the wider LGBT+ community in breaking down the barriers that create boundaries in the workplace. The workplace should always be a welcoming, safe and enjoyable experience for every employee regardless of their background or orientation. As part of Project 1000, I hope we can bring about a global change in attitudes and give the necessary support to an industry that needs to change with the times. Everyone is unique, special and can bring something to the table to make a firm thrive."
