About

Bio: Mark is an Investment Specialist in the Credit team at Aviva Investors in London. He has been in the financial service industry for over 15 years, beginning his career in insurance and mortgages. Having attended university to study philosophy and politics as an undergraduate followed by his masters in investment and financial management, Mark is a member of the CII, and joined Aviva Investors in 2018 as part of their Global Graduate Leadership intake.

Since then Mark has held positions across the business, from Legal to project management in Transformation, as well as recently working and living in Singapore.

Mark sits as Co-chair of the Aviva Investors disability workstream as well as sitting on the Aviva Investors LGBT working group. He has recently also become a mentor to help academically-talented disadvantaged students achieve their potential.

Mark comments: "Diversity and inclusion has moved from being once a business and reputational risk to a necessity. While we have made large strides, we must now work at pace and make leaps forward to recruit, retain and develop an inclusive workplace. Part of this means standing up and recognising diversity, which is not always visible.

My own experiences have shown me that it is often not easy to be open about who you are, particularly among cultures where it is not accepted. This is where business networks can make an impact, through growing an inclusive culture and placing soft pressure on industry and governments for systemic change. For this reason, I am proud to be an LGBT Great role model as part of their Project 1000 campaign and represent my firm as an inclusive organisation. While more can always be done, knowing I am part of a wider and larger community gives me the confidence that we are heading in the right direction. I am optimistic that our future is one where everyone feels able to be who they are, without fear of consequence, and I am bringing the energy and ambition to do my part."
