Rachel Harris
Senior Investment Director at Aviva
About
Bio: Rachel is a Senior Investment Director at Aviva Investors and runs a team of credit and equity investment specialists. She has spent over 20 years working in the fixed income markets in various guises, initially as a salesperson for investment banks and then moving into asset management after an 8 year career break to spend time with her three young children. She is passionate about all aspects of inclusion and champions developing a more diverse and inclusive asset management and savings industry.
Rachel comments "While I have always been passionate about bringing more women into the industry, it is through my involvement with the Diversity Project as a steering committee member and chairing the Returners workstream that I have come to realise the difficulties and obstacles of being your authentic self at work if you are a member of the LGBT+ community. Gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religious persuasion or educational background should not define whether you are good at your job or not. A more inclusive industry should allow for any and all candidates to be considered on a level playing field.
I feel incredibly privileged to work at Aviva Investors. The company has been at the forefront of diversity and inclusion initiatives, not least by introducing equal parental leave whereby any parent, regardless of gender, sexual orientation or how they became a parent (birth, adoption or surrogacy) can take up to one year of leave."
