Diego Rodrigues

Early Careers Resource Consultant at Nationwide Building Society

About

Bio: Diego Rodrigues (he/him) is a dedicated Communications & Engagement Consultant at Nationwide within the Mortgages & Financial Wellbeing Function, specialising in Colleague Enablement. He has a keen focus on effective communication strategies and events planning, aligning with the Society's Blueprint for a Modern Mutual. Diego has a 17+ year career in the financial industry, working across Contact Centre, Collections & Recoveries, Banking and Customer Data. This is banking - but fairer, more rewarding, and for the good of society.

Diego is a proud gay man and Co-Chair of Nationwide's LGBTQIA+ Employee Network, Pride, working closely with Head of Inclusion & Diversity, Network Sponsors and ExCo.
His initiatives within the Communications Workstream (Engage & Celebrate) have ensured that the Network members feel seen, included, informed, engaged and supported through regular communications, drop-in sessions, one-to-one support across the Society, acting as SME on a range of LGBTQIA+ issues, and more recently, realising the restructure of the Pride Network's Strategy & Governance.

Nationwide has been the proud Headline Sponsor for Swindon & Wiltshire Pride for the last 10+ years, where Diego has, for the last 2 years, worked closely with the Events and Brand teams and Swindon & Wiltshire Pride Committee to bring back Pride to Nationwide's home, each year bigger and better.

Diego lives between Southampton and the New Forest with his fiancé and 2 cats, and works from Nationwide's Bournemouth office. He was born in Los Teques, Venezuela to Portuguese parents, later moving to the UK in 2003. He speaks Spanish, English, Portuguese and French and loves holidaying and immersing in other cultures.

Diego's comments:
"I'm so incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to do the work that I do day in, day out and side of desk. This nomination as Top Gamechangers 2024 is a complete surprise to me and I'm so incredibly honoured to be considered for this!
I joined the Pride Network in 2021 as a Communications Officer and made sure that I did something every single day to support the Communications Strategy from simple conversations to drop-in sessions and newsletters - and everything else in between. I quickly promoted to Communications Lead and later stepped up as Co-Chair.

Currently I'm working on leveraging AI and automation to support and restructure the Pride Network's Strategy & Governance to help make it more dynamic and inclusive. As we Push for Better and continue being a Beacon for Mutual Good, this helps us maintain alignment to our core values, our vision, our mission and the Society's Blueprint for a Modern Mutual"
