About

Bio: Paras is the Chief Investment Officer at Artemis Investment Management, which he joined in 2022. He is responsible for working across all asset classes to determine priorities, catalyse innovation and represent the function to external bodies such as regulators and policy makers. He leads Artemis’ Diversity, Equity and Inclusion working group, championing and being an ally for all aspects of DEI strategy and practices.

Paras was previously CIO for Asia-Pacific at Fidelity International which he joined in 2012. He was a member of the Group Operating Committee from 2015 and led the group strategy on sustainability. He was the Global Sponsor for Cultural Diversity and initiatives such as systematic investment strategies and use of data, analytics and artificial intelligence in the investment process.

At Fidelity, he gave a talk at the inauguration of the Women’s Network which over time became Fidelity 4 Everyone and encompasses the broader D&I agenda including LGBT. He also co-sponsored Fidelity’s Corporate Sustainability programme and its strategy for improving the organisation’s performance across all aspects of ESG.

Paras grew up in the UK and has worked in London, Singapore, Hong Kong and New York. Despite focusing principally on arts subject academically, he became interested in investments through his mother, who was a Japanese Equity fund manager. As Paras started his investment career, he realised having an arts background helped with understanding of market psychology as well as shifts in business dynamics and incorporated this as part of his investment process as a European Equity fund manager.

Paras believes decision-making under uncertainty is always done best by developing teams with diverse views leveraging the insights that can come from different backgrounds, different cultures and unique life experiences. Critical to managing diverse teams is creating an environment of psychological safety where individuals feel well supported and are their authentic selves.

Paras comments:
"It is essential to have an effective, motivated and diverse team by embracing different backgrounds, cultures and experiences. People enjoy working with teams and in environments which make them feel valued and where they can be truly themselves."
