Bitesize Learning: Being trans in the asset management industry

Fri, November 16, 2018

Friday 16th November, 8.30am - 9.30am. Warnford Court, 29 Throgmorton Street, London, EC2N 2AT.

Trans people are protected by the 2010 Equality Act under the protected characteristic of gender reassignment. Yet LGBT Great has seen very few trans people either come forward or wish to be visual within the sector, this says a lot about the progress needed within the asset management industry. Trans talent can bring so many great skills to our sector and firms need to take pre-emptive actions to ensure that trans employees are fully supported.

The session will focus on providing an overview of what being trans means in the context of the asset management industry. We will draw on global studies, social psychology and behavioural sciences to explain simply and clearly why our industry needs to improve. We will also discuss the UK Governments recent Gender Reassignment Consultation and consider that the UK in 2005 was the first country in the world to give people the ability to legally change their gender.

We will also provide you with a number of takeaways for you to take back to your firms. The session will be documented in a bitesize white paper and distributed to participants to produce a framework for discussion.
