Our Story

We are here to help workplaces become authentically inclusive for LGBTQ+ people and allies, whether they’re employees or customers. Because when people prosper, everyone thrives.

Our current membership stands at over 60 organisations with a combined employee population of 500,000+ people worldwide. 

But as no one is ‘just’ a work professional or ‘just’ a person identifying as LGBTQ+ (or as a person of colour, or a working parent, or as having a disability), diversity is only one piece of the puzzle – inclusion is equally important. 

That’s why our focus is on helping organisations become authentically inclusive. Recently, the lived experience of many LGBTQ+ people at work was one of loneliness, isolation, invisibility and frustration. LGBTQ+ people reported feeling apprehensive that ‘being out’ could stall their careers.

We identified that a key factor inhibiting progress was the ability to reach out to non-LGBTQ+ people and help them to understand and connect with the community. 

Leaders, Human Resources, the C-suite, Boards and professional investors were clamouring for greater diversity of talent at all levels, and becoming frustrated that despite their best efforts, they weren’t seeing greater representation.   

These factors were the inspiration and catalyst for LGBT Great. With our professional histories in global business and financial services, and our lived experiences as LGBTQ+ individuals and allies, we believed we could help both the industry and its LGBTQ+ community grow and thrive.

Since we launched our membership solutions in 2019, we have raised LGBTQ+ inclusion standards through our flagship Inclusion Index Benchmarking Tool); we have helped organisations take action on inclusion through thought leadership programs and proprietary research; and we are on track to showcase 1000 LGBT+ role models and allies. We are helping our members to become more inclusive, informed and confident.

 

Why LGBT Great

In five years we have learnt a lot. We realised we could help even more organisations and professionals by packaging our learnings, data, methodologies and proven best practices into accessible, (and customised solutions) modular, DEI-as-a-service consultancy. That’s why we now offer flexible LGBTQ+ Advisory solutions too. 

We’ve also observed – unsurprisingly – that LGBTQ+ talent wants to connect with LGBTQ+ inclusive employers, and inclusive institutions want to attract LGBTQ+ talent from entry level to executive. So, we created Careers, comprising a Job Board and talent attraction platform, helping employers affirm their organisation as a LGBTQ+ friendly place to work while accessing a wider pool of talent globally.
